Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship students

Japanese government(MEXTscholarships support foreign students who study in higher education institutions, selected on the recommendation of Japanese Embassy/Consulate General, University, or Authority.
 
MEXT scholarship students receive thier scholarship funds on a monthly basis and are exempt from admission and tuition fees. Beisdes, round-trip air-ticket between student's country and Japan are also provided.

Applicants must first obtain informal consent from the supervisor to join their lab and then submit their academic transcript. UEC will convert the applicant's GPA into the MEXT scale and verify whether it meets the required GPA standard.

You will have to submit designated documents to the Embassy of JAPAN and take a test and an interview.

After passing the first screening conducted by the embassy, you need to find a prospective supervisor by yourself.
If you cannot find a prospective supervisor, we will not issue "Provisional Acceptance Letter"

Before submitting the documents, applicants must first obtain informal consent from the supervisor to join their lab and confirm that their GPA meets the required minimum.

Important: There are two categories: "Special Frame (Special Program)" and "General Frame". Please consult your prospective supervisor to confirm which category applies to you, and use the appropriate Excel file.

Read "INSTRUCTIONS" carefully before filling in the form. In particular, make sure that the academic record period and language proficiency score are correct. Do not insert rows and columns. - Digital signature is not acceptable. Fill in the "Remarks" field of "11. Academic record" according to the "INSTRUCTIONS." Do not fill in your grades or achievements in this field.

Fill in the information regarding your academic paper(s) or book(s).

Attach a copy of academic paper(s) or a copy of the title page of book(s).

(4)Passport copy

The page with photo. If you do not have a passport, submit a copy of the family register, or the citizen (resident) register.

(5)Official transcript

Certificate of university academic record (official transcript), authorized by the university which you belong to or graduated from (the last school attended). Important: It must include the explanation of the grading system (grading scale). If the transcript does not explain the grading scale (e.g., A=80-100, B=70-79), please submit a separate official document explaining it.

(6)Graduation certificate

Certificate of University graduation, diploma or degree, or Certificate of Expected Graduation (for current students), authorized by the university which you belong to or graduated from.

(7)Certificate of high academic performance

Certificate of GPA, academic ranking among other students etc. issued by the university which you belong to or graduated from (the last school attended). If the GPA is listed on the Academic Record, you do not need to submit any "Certificate of high academic performance".

(8)Letter or recommendation from the dean or higher

Obtain the letter from the university you belong to as a student, or graduated from (the last school attended). There is no specific format required. But this letter must fulfill all of the following conditions:

1. The name of the addressee stated in the letter must be "the President of the University of Electro-Communications"

2. The letter must be printed on your university's letterhead.

3. The letter must be written by and signed by the dean or higher.

(9)Photo data

Your passport size photo (4.5cm x 3.5cm) taken within the past 6 months. -The upper half of the body: front face: without a hat. As long as the face is clearly visible, covering head with a cloth when taking a photograph is OK. Please submit a clear color photo data. After the screening, it will be used for the student ID card.

(10)Summary of a graduation thesis

It should be summarized succinctly.

(11)Certificate of language ability

TOEFL, TOEIC, Japanese language proficiency test etc. Submit the English score sheet which has been taken AFTER December, 2023. If you have taken the test during December 2023, please ask the International Student Office if it will be considered valid.

If you cannot submit the original score sheet with your application documents, your application will not be accepted. -If you do not have a language proficiency certificate, and you have completed a degree course offered mainly in English or Japanese, submit a document to prove you have completed the course mainly in English/Japanese language. Only official documents issued by the university you belong to or graduated from as a student is valid.

Note: If the original document is not in Japanese or English, please attach a formal translation in Japanese or English.
